There are so many things to do senior year, right?

SAT and ACT Testing, college recommendation letters, prom, making sure they know how to do laundry . . . there’s just so much to do and it happens incredibly fast.

Before you know it their high school graduation is right around the corner.  This usually hits home right after Christmas. It certainly did for me this past year as I was preparing for my son to graduate.  That last semester of high school can be tough for parents because they know this chapter is coming to an end.

Maybe you’ve already had their senior portraits created.  Maybe not. And that’s ok if you haven’t. You still have time, but I would encourage you to have senior pictures scheduled with your photographer before early spring if you want to send out graduation announcements.  Waiting too late to schedule with the senior photographer of your choice could lead to disappointment when you find that their schedule is already full. So it is best to book senior portrait sessions just as soon as possible.

But let’s get to the topic at hand . . . the purpose of graduation announcements. 

Here are 4 big reasons why you should be sending graduation announcements:

1. Celebrate your kiddo and all of their accomplishments!  Tell the world about their big day! Your announcement can also serve the dual purpose of a graduation party invite as well.

2. Your friends and family want to congratulate them and send them a little “something” to help them enter adulthood.  This can be a huge help financially to sending them off to college and decorating their new dorm rooms.

3. Friends and acquaintances that you don’t necessarily talk to on a daily basis but still are a part of your life may lose track of time and easily forget how much your baby has grown up!  This is a great way to celebrate life’s milestones together and possibly reconnect.

4. Sending graduation announcements out to all the important people in YOUR life sends the subtle message to your child about how proud you are of them.  They may not say it, but our kids notice those little things that make a big difference in their lives and their self esteem.

When it comes to graduation announcements, no matter if they are professionally created by your photographer or you use an online service to create them . . . just get them out in the mail!  If you are sending an announcement only you have some flexibility on when to send them out. If your card will be more of an invitation then sending 4 weeks prior to your event date would be the way to go.
